How can I manage my account online?
Unfortunately the online account feature of Speedpass™ will no longer be available as of January 1, 2021. If you are wishing to manage your account as of January 1, 2021, please call Speedpass Customer Service toll free at 1-877-230-8344 for all account updates.
What is changing with Speedpass Keytag?
We are excited to begin introducing Tap to Pay technology at the pumps at Esso™ and Mobil™ sites across Canada. Customers will start to notice Tap to Pay availability at the pumps at select sites, with availability increasing over the coming year.
Tap to Pay is replacing Speedpass Keytag at the pumps. At converted sites, Speedpass Keytag customers can continue to pay with their key tag in the store. Alternatively, customers (excluding Fleet customers) can use the Speedpass+ App for a contactless payment option that allows them to combine their preferred payment method with their fuel discount card and loyalty card.
Why have you introduced Tap to Pay at the pumps?
We have offered Tap to Pay inside the store for several years and recognize it is a popular payment method. With increasing demand for contactless payments and increased tap purchase limits earlier in 2020, we are looking forward to offering customers their preferred payment method at the pump.
How do I use Tap to Pay at the pump?
Simply take your tap-enabled payment card and hold near the pump until the dispenser confirms the payment was registered. If you are using a fuel discount card or a loyalty card, please insert it before tapping your payment card.
How do I collect loyalty points with Tap to Pay at the pump?
Please make sure you enter your loyalty card or the phone number associated with your loyalty account before tapping your payment card.
I also have a loyalty card and/or a Price Privilege™ card. Are those cards capable of tapping at the pump?
Unfortunately we are not able to offer tap-enabled Esso Extra™, PC Optimum™, or Price Privilege cards. If you would prefer a contactless transaction with payment and loyalty, you can use a President’s Choice Financial® Mastercard® which combines your purchase method and loyalty in one, or you can load your cards onto the Speedpass+ App which combines your payment method, discount card and loyalty card in one for a contactless payment method.
What card types do you accept with Tap to Pay?
We accept the same cards that are accepted with the magnetic stripe or chip and pin, as per the on-site payment decals. We also accept standard digital wallets such as Google Pay™ and Apple Pay™.
How do I know which sites offer Tap at the pump?
Why is the Speedpass Keytag reader removed at the pump?
Unfortunately we are not able to offer both Speedpass Keytag and Tap to Pay at the same pump. As we introduce Tap to Pay at the pump, the Speedpass Keytag reader will be removed at the pump. If offered previously, the Speedpass Keytag mat will still be available in-store for the present time.
Can I still use my Speedpass Keytag?
Speedpass Keytag is still accepted where the readers are available. As we introduce Tap to Pay at the pump, the Speedpass Keytag reader will be removed at the pump. If offered previously, the Speedpass Keytag mat will still be available in-store for the present time.
Can I order replacement or additional Speedpass Keytags for my existing account?
Yes, request a replacement by calling Speedpass Customer Service toll free at 1-877-230-8344.
How do I know which sites still offer Speedpass Keytag at the pump and in-store?

Eventually, Speedpass Keytag will be removed as a payment option from the pumps as we introduce Tap to Pay at the pump. If offered previously, the Speedpass Keytag mat will still be available in-store for the present time.
When will I know when a site is introducing Tap to Pay? Can you notify me in advance or provide the scheduled conversion dates?
Unfortunately we are not able to provide advance notice of site upgrades. At this time upgrades are being done on a site by site basis. If a significant number of upgrades are being done in an area at a time, we may contact Speedpass™ Keytag users in the area to notify them of the change. Please make sure your e-mail address is correct on file in order to receive accurate updates as they become available.
I’m an Esso™ Mobil™ Fleet card holder. What are my payment options?
As a Fleet card holder, if you’d like to continue to pay at the pump, please insert your physical card at the dispenser. If you no longer have the card that is linked to your Speedpass Keytag, you can request a replacement from WEX customer service by calling +1 (800) 267-0156 (dial the ‘#’ key at the menu prompts for ‘maintenance’ and have your account number and information ready) Alternatively, you can order replacement cards by visiting your online account at https://www.essofleetonline.com/. Alternatively, for all sites that had the Speedpass Keytag reader at the pump previously, the Speedpass mat will still be available for key tag use in-store. Unfortunately Fleet cards are not tap enabled and cannot be used in the Speedpass+ App.

Once your Speedpass arrives, please call Speedpass Customer Service toll free at 1-877-230-8344 to activate it.
Once you have activated your Speedpass, you will be able to use it within 2 to 4 hours.
Any item that can be purchased at a participating stations can be purchased with your Speedpass Keytag.
To cancel a Speedpass transaction at the pump, simply press the CANCEL button on the pump's keypad before fueling.
Your Speedpass Keytag will not expire. However, the credit card linked to your Speedpass account does expire. In order to keep your Speedpass Keytag working, you will need to update your account with the expiry date of your credit card by calling Speedpass Customer Service toll free at 1-877-230-8344.
Here are the most common reasons for a Speedpass Keytag not to work:
- Newly activated Speedpass Keytags may take up to 24 hours to begin working
- Your credit card information may be incorrect. See the FAQ listed as “How do I update my credit card information that is linked to my account?”
- Speedpass Keytag is linked to your credit card and require a minimum available credit of $150 for a pre-authorization hold
Your Speedpass key tag member number can be found engraved on the side of your Speedpass key tag. Please note, you will need to enter all of the letters and digits to create an online account on essoextra.com e.g.: A00000000.

Yes. You may have up to five (5) individual Speedpass Keytags linked to any credit card of your choice.
You can link your Speedpass to all major Canadian credit cards that are accepted at Esso and Mobil stations.
Please call Speedpass Customer Service toll free at 1-877-230-8344.
No. Speedpass is safe and secure. Your card number or other personal information is not stored in your Speedpass Keytag.
Contact your credit card provider and let them know your card has been lost or stolen.
Then, call Speedpass Customer Service toll free at 1-877-230-8344 to link a new card to your Speedpass so you can continue using your key tag.
You should immediately cancel your key tag and request a replacement by calling Speedpass Customer Service toll free at 1-877-230-8344.
The Speedpass Keytag does not contain any personal credit card account information. The key tag simply stores a unique identification number that identifies you as an Esso and Mobil customer.
What you are seeing on your bank account is an authorization hold. This is a common bank practice when handling credit card transactions to ensure sufficient funds. This authorization will clear usually within 48 – 72 hours depending on your banks policy.
Can I change the loyalty program that's linked to my Speedpass?
Yes, you can update your loyalty program by calling Speedpass Customer Service toll free at 1-877-230-8344.
Simply link your Speedpass Keytag to your Esso Extra™ account and you can start earning Esso Extra points for great rewards!
Yes. Present your Speedpass Keytag at the station and the system will automatically deduct the appropriate amount of Esso Extra points from your account.
Yes. This option is only available inside the station. Simply present your Speedpass with your payment to the attendant.
Yes. If the Esso station does not accept Speedpass Keytag you will need to swipe your Esso Extra card in order to collect your Esso Extra points.
