How do I activate my Speedpass?
Once your Speedpass arrives, you can activate it online. Click here to get started and fill in the required information.

When I activate my Speedpass can I use it right away?
Once you have activated your Speedpass, you will be able to use it within 2 to 4 hours.

What products can I purchase with my Speedpass?
Any item that can be purchased at a participating Esso station can be purchased with your Speedpass.

How do I cancel a Speedpass transaction?
To cancel a Speedpass transaction at the pump, simply press the CANCEL button on the pump's keypad BEFORE fueling.

Do Speedpass key tags expire?
Your Speedpass key tag will not expire. However, the credit card linked to your Speedpass does expire. In order to keep your Speedpass working, you will need to update your account online with the new expiry date of your credit card.

Why is my Speedpass not working?
Here are the most common reasons for a Speedpass not to work:
  • Newly activated Speedpass key tags may take up to 24 hours to begin working
  • Your credit card information may be incorrect.  See the FAQ listed as “How do I update my credit card information that is linked to my account?
  • Speedpass key tags are linked to your credit card and require a minimum available credit of $150 for a pre-authorization hold

What kind of payment methods can I use?
You can link your Speedpass to all major credit cards that are accepted at Esso stations. This includes Visa cards, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and HBC cards.
Can I enroll for more than one Speedpass?
Yes. You may have up to five (5) individual Speedpass key tags linked to any credit card of your choice.

What kind of credit card can I link to my Speedpass?
You can link your Speedpass to all major Canadian credit cards that are accepted at Esso stations.

Can Esso Business Card customers use Speedpass?
Yes. Esso Business Card customers can enroll in Speedpass. The only difference is that Esso Extra and Aeroplan Cards cannot be linked to the Speedpass key tag. Business Speedpass key tag customers will need to continue to swipe the Esso Extra or Aeroplan Card with the transaction to earn Esso Extra points or Aeroplan Miles.

What happens if my Speedpass enrollment form is declined?
If your enrollment form has missing or incorrect information you will be contacted by a Speedpass Customer Service Representative.

How long does it take to get my Speedpass after I enroll?
You should receive your Speedpass key tag within 2 to 3 weeks of enrollment.

How do I update my credit card information that is linked to my account?
Below are the most common questions and answers to help solve this:

  3. Fill out the form for new payment card ensuring that your address matches your financial institutions address

  2. Scroll down to find “Expiry date” under the active key tags section and select “edit” 
  3. Edit expiry date information

Can someone intercept my credit card number?
No. Speedpass is safe and secure. Your card number or other personal information is not stored in your Speedpass key tag.

What should I do if the credit card linked to my Speedpass is lost or stolen?
Contact your credit card provider and let them know your card has been lost or stolen. Then, log in to your account to link a new card to your Speedpass so you can continue using your key tag. 
Steps to link a new credit card to your Speedpass:
  • Log in to your speedpass.ca account
  • Scroll down to find the “linked to:” under the active key tags section and select “change”
  • Fill out the form for new payment card ensuring that your address matches your financial institutions address

What happens if my Speedpass is lost, stolen or damaged?
You should immediately cancel your key tag and request a replacement by logging in to your account or by calling Speedpass Customer Service toll free at 1-877-230-8344.

What kind of information is stored on my Speedpass?
Your Speedpass key tag does not contain any personal credit card account information. The key tag simply stores a unique identification number that identifies you as an Esso customer.

Why is there a hold or pending charge on my credit card?
What you are seeing on your bank account is an authorization hold. This is a common bank practice when handling credit card transactions to ensure sufficient funds. This authorization will clear usually within 48 – 72 hours depending on your banks policy.
Can I change the loyalty program that's linked to my Speedpass?
Yes, by logging in to your account you are able to update your loyalty program.

How do I earn Esso Extra points or Aeroplan Miles when I use Speedpass?
Simply indicate on the enrollment form which program you'd like to link your Speedpass key tags to and you can start earning Esso Extra points or Aeroplan Miles for great rewards!

Can I redeem Esso Extra rewards with my Speedpass?
Yes. Present your Speedpass at the station and the system will automatically deduct the appropriate amount of Esso Extra points from your account.

Can I redeem Aeroplan Miles with my Speedpass?
No. Aeroplan Miles cannot be redeemed at Esso stations. Please visit aeroplan.com to redeem your Aeroplan Miles and to find a complete list of travel rewards.

Can I use my Speedpass to collect Esso Extra points or Aeroplan Miles even if I do not use it to pay for my purchases?
Yes. This option is only available inside the station. Simply present your Speedpass with your payment to the attendant.

Do I still need to keep my Esso Extra and Aeroplan Cards?
Yes. If the Esso station does not accept Speedpass you will need to swipe your Esso Extra or Aeroplan Card in order to collect your Esso Extra points or Aeroplan Miles.
