What we said we would do in 2008
- Create economic opportunities for local businesses; develop locally competitive supply chains
- Increase our goods and services purchases from Aboriginal suppliers
- Increase contributions to environmental conservation programs to 18 percent of our contributions budget
- Continue to increase funding of programs that address Aboriginal people’s needs, especially education
- Launch a diversity program for employees
What we did in 2009
- Contracted $5.3 million of work to more than 5,000 local businesses
- Supported the purchases of goods and services from Aboriginal suppliers through more than $91 million in spending
- Increased funding to environmental programs to 12 percent of our contributions budget
- Increased our funding of Aboriginal programs from $200,000 in 2006 to more than $600,000 in 2009
- Launched a diversity education program for employees
What we plan to do
- Continue to create economic opportunities for local businesses; develop locally competitive supply chains.
- Continue to target a goal of 18 percent of our contributions budget toward environmental conservation programs.
- Build a workforce that is representative of the available, qualified Aboriginal people in the labour market
